Family run chinese take out restaurant. This is not a place where you want to sit and eat; call ahead and take it home! Most everything is cooked with a wok over a flaming gas stove. Affordable and usually quick.
I prefer some items more than the other and have two go to dishes: curry beef over rice and ma-po tofu with pork over rice. -

Ordered the broccoli and beef with chow main which was pretty good, I think, I was too hungry to notice. Walking into the "restaurant?" I noticed it's pretty dirty and outdated, I almost walked out.. The lady that took my order (the owner) was interesting; she asked too many questions considering I'm a youngish mother with a stroller. She asked how old I was, how old she thought I was, that my 2 month old baby girl looked like a boy, if her father was in the picture.. no filter maybe it's the culture? Stared at me the whole time I ate then kicked me out 5 minutes into eating cause she had an appointment to go to.. Don't see myself going back there haha

We ordered Szechuan fried rice, salt and pepper fish, and tea garden cheese wonton. All of them are very good. The owner also friendly.

Believe the other reviews when they describe the ambiance, or lack of. The place looks like it hasn't been remodeled in 20 years. Paint missing, wood trim missing, fish tank dirty (although the fish doesn't look in distress), and the grime build up ... yet, somehow, they have a green placard from Santa Clara County health. But I didn't come here for the ambiance, I came for the Salt and Pepper Shrimp. Let's discuss the food -
Potstickers - Some of the best I've had. Large and perfectly cooked. Taste was spot on.
Salt and Pepper Shrimp - Had high hopes for this. Plenty of shrimps (I counted 15) lightly coated with the shell on (tails attached but no heads). A couple things that prevented me from enjoying this dish. The coating, it tasted a bit raw. Maybe too much (corn starch?) coating or not cooked long enough. 2nd, no jalapenos. They use red peppers instead. The flavor was still very good, but I prefer jalapenos.
Beef Chow Fun - Eh. Average, nothing special.
Chicken with Curry Sauce - Good curry flavor, although the sauce could be thicker. Also, the chicken was precooked (one of the drawbacks of an open kitchen) and the dish looked and tasted like it.
As others have mentioned, don't expect to take your family of 20 here. There are not many tables or seats (no room). But if you are interested in how Chinese food is prepared, the kitchen is in full view. The lady who took my order is very friendly. -

Tea garden Chinese kitchen is not my go to restaurant for Chinese food. It is however a happy middle of the road Chinese dinner or a quick lunch. I find the food to be Middle of the road not heavy and spices and salt nor leaning towards clear broth vegan Chinese at some restaurants provided in the area
